Get the facts about boundary-defying activities like sexting, constant messaging, spying and digital disrespect - so you'll know where the line is, and be ready to draw your own.
One of my erstwhile colleagues had pointed out the importance of keeping kids safe when they are online. Digital education is not only about learning how to program or use a software; it's also a lot about knowing the who the villain among the bits and bytes could be. As we run to catch up with the torrent of data, others are looking to grab some of our own. Spam is just a small part…there are more evil in the form of phishing and password theft.
iRead is a group of teachers in Escondido Union School District dedicated to the idea that digital audio can be a powerful learning tool for all students. iRead will give you a chance to create meaningful,
curriculum-centered audio projects with your students. Teachers are using digital audio tools (iPods, mics, Garageband, iTunes,
Keynote, etc. and various accessories) to improve reading
processes. Teachers meet on a monthly basis to exchange ideas and strategies. We started in 2006-07 by collecting data
about fluency rates - this has been very promising.
We know how important it is to protect and educate young people on using the Internet and want to provide all of our users with a safe experience.
When it comes to family safety, we aim to:
* Provide parents and teachers with tools to help them choose what content their children see online
* Offer tips and advice to families about how to stay safe online
* Work closely with organizations such as charities, others in our industry and government bodies dedicated to protecting young people
Welcome to X-BLOCK, the place for students to hang out, learn about cyber safety and share their online experiences with others. It is your turn to DRiVE. Make the cyber world your world!
"Bound by Law translates law into plain English and abstract ideas into 'visual metaphors.' So the comic's heroine, Akiko, brandishes a laser gun as she fends off a cyclopean 'Rights Monster' - all the while learning copyright law basics, including the line between fair use and copyright infringement." -Brandt Goldstein, The Wall Street Journal online
